What is Reiki?
Reiki is a hands-on energetic healing practice that is used to promote relaxation, stress reduction, and balance in the human body. Rooted in Japanese origin, the word Reiki translates as “Universal Life Energy.” Reiki works with the energy field (aura) that surrounds and flows through all living things. When a person’s “ki” or life energy is strong and free flowing, a person’s body, mind, and emotions are in a positive state of health. When the “ki” energy becomes weak or blocked, it can lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. Reiki practitioners are attuned and sensitive to the subtleties of this energy field and use traditional hand positions and light touch to identify where a client may need assistance with supporting energy flow through and around the body. Reiki treatments can be preformed both in-person or across distance (e.g., I can be in my office and the client can receive a reiki treatment in their home in another state) - since we are all energy and connected at an energetic level, the capacity for reiki energy to heal is not bound by constraints of distance, space or time.
While Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, it is used to help bring the body to a state of relaxation and reduced stress that then allows the body to maximize healing. Improvements can happen on several levels, including the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. As a result, Reiki sessions can be an excellent complement to traditional and other alternative medicine and wellness treatments. |
What is a session like with me?
I am a Master/Teacher Reiki practioner in the Usui/Holy Fire® III and Karuna® Holy Fire® III Reiki. A session is typically 60 minutes long with clients resting comfortably (fully clothed) on a massage table. While I use the traditional hand positions and light touch during Reiki sessions, my specific style is highly intuitive. This means that I am strongly guided by my intuition and psychic awareness to the parts of the body that are in most need of energetic support at the time. During Reiki sessions, it is also common for me to receive visions, insights, and messages about physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges in need of focused attention or that are in the process of healing and being released. Very simply, the hands-on interaction allows me to provide energetic support to the physical and energy body, as well as an intuitive insights for where a client is in their life path. I also use a variety of stones and crystals to enhance the healing work (after all, they're made of energy too and each contain specific properties that support us on all levels). It's a pretty fascinating process and clients have so far received it very well.
Most clients feel a sense of relaxation, calmness, lightness, and peace in the physical body and the mind. In some situations, clients experience a deep emotional release, though this isn't always the case. Reiki is so relaxing that sometimes clients may fall asleep during the session. Don’t worry though, you still receive all of the benefits of the session, sleeping or awake. Some people may feel slight tingling, heat, or pulsing sensations at or near where the practitioner places their hands. A client may also feel nothing at all except a deep sense of relaxation. It is different for all clients and the sensations or lack thereof are not an indication of the Reiki and how well it’s “working,” rather, only how your body senses energy. |
